September 28, 2011
Trying to get your content to spread is tricky. Here are 5 things to consider.
1. A Call to Retweet
You want all followers to Retweet what you’re saying so just ask them! Using the word ‘please RT’ is effective and creates a snowball effect as all Retweets will say ‘Please RT’. Other words that seem to be effective are Check out…, Help me, Asking a Question, Follow this person and Please vote.
2. Timing your Tweet
The best time to Tweet is Monday – Wednesday 9am-6pm EST as the amount of Retweets see a noticeable increase.
3. Using Links
70% of all links that get Retweeted contain a link. This is great news as it shows that followers are eager to spread the links if it provides quality. You want your website to be one of them.
4. Social Proofing
If you want more Retweets, there needs to be a lot of people Retweeting already as people like to follow what is already popular. A great way to get more Retweets is to ask friends or other influencers to Retweet so that you can get organic Retweeting happening. Retweets rise as time goes on.
5. Creating Value
The Value based content that creates the most buzz for Retweeting are Information (How To’s Content), News (especially if it’s fresh), Warnings(like scams), Contests and Freebies.
