Starting on Twitter and Doing it Right
September 28, 2011
Here’s some quick advice on steps to complete without getting overwhelmed or stuck on Twitter
1. Don’t follow everyone in a short amount of time
Although it is a good idea to get more involved by following people on Twitter, it is a horrible idea to do it all at once. Start with Tweeting about your interests, what do you like, what do you do, how fun are you, something interesting you found out today. Do 20 Tweets, then start following a few people (10 or so). People will start to get a feel for how you can benefit them if they followed you. Keep the ratio going 20 Tweets: 10 people to follow.
2. Don’t reply back to everyone at once
Don’t treat Twitter like it’s an email. Wait a few minutes to reply, especially if you have messages that don’t require you to reply straight away. Don’t just Retweet – mix your tweets up with Replies, general Tweets and links.
3. Don’t Tweet a lot
Don’t Tweet a lot when you first start on Twitter or you will instantly become a spammer. Tweet more once you have more followers.
Take these steps on to start on the best foot possible.
